Dawson Creativity Lab

Welcome to the Dawson Makerspace.

We are building a community workshop.

Phase One: Securing the Space The Dawson Makerspace Society is officially an incorporated non-profit. This project sparked to life when a potential facility opened up in town, and we rapidly formed the Society to seize the opportunity. We are entering lease negotiations with the landlord to secure our physical home and will keep this site updated as the project progresses.

A Foundation of Trust (And Good Hardware) A community workshop runs on shared resources. To make sure everyone feels comfortable bringing their equipment into the space, we have purchased the hardware for an 8 camera security system that will be monitored by a local AI, and integrated with a keyless entry system using RFID keyfobs that will be integrated with the website/facility membership system.

We want to foster an atmosphere of trust where people can lend or donate tools to help the Makerspace get off the ground, and in return, receive membership credit for their contributions. The intention is to replace any lent tools/equipment once revenue is established.

The Roadmap to Opening Building this space is going to be a community effort. Here is our timeline:

  • The Volunteer Build (Coming Soon): We will open the doors to volunteers first. This phase is for the builders—signing people up, handing out key fobs, and physically setting up the shop.
  • The Grand Opening (To Be Announced): We are aiming to open our doors for paid memberships once we have a full time Facilitator in place, hopefully in time to give everyone a shop to start making projects and gifts in time for the holiday season.

We are just getting started. Check back soon as we secure the building and start turning the lights on!
